Care Instructions for Linen and Suede

The Styling Reserve’s ring boxes are crafted with high-quality materials like linen and vegan suede, which can be more difficult to keep clean. We’re here to help you keep your ring boxes looking fresh and new, no matter how many wedding flat lays you use them for!

General Ring Box Care Instructions

Regardless of the material, there are some key things to do when handling your ring boxes to avoid smudges, stains, dust and grime. Here are our suggestions: 

• Never eat or drink while arranging your flat lays, and keep things such as your water bottle or fresh flower vase on a separate surface, just in case they spill or drip
• Make sure to handle your ring box with care, and before handling, make sure your hands are clean and dry 
• Check your other props (flowers, antique tray, ribbon, etc.) to ensure they are also clean before you arrange them with the ring box
• If you happen to spill, use a cold, damp cloth to blot the area clean (never rub a stain, it’ll make it harder to remove)
• Store your ring box in your clean dust bag when not in use

How to Care for Linen Ring Boxes

Linen is a biodegradable fabric that comes from the fibers of the flax plant, which makes it stronger and more absorbent than cotton. This can also make it tricky to clean, since the material may absorb a spill or stain more quickly. However, you can still clean linen after an accident, so don’t worry! 

To spot treat your linen ring box, use a gentle stain treatment like a Tide pen and gently brush the stained area(s). Allow the stain treatment time to work, before using a damp, lint-free cleaning cloth to dab at the area and remove the stain and treatment solution. You may need to repeat this process for darker or deeper stains. 

The best way to store your linen ring box is in the provided cotton dust bag. This will protect it from bugs, dust, and any particles that happen to get into your styling kit. You should never store linen items in plastic, since it can stimulate yellowing or allow moisture to build up, which causes mildew.

How to Care for Suede Ring Boxes

Suede is a type of brushed leather that has a soft, velvety texture. However, because of suedes unique texture, it can attract dust, and there’s a different approach to keeping it clean and looking fresh, depending on the finish. 

For The Styling Reserve’s suede ring boxes, we recommend keeping a travel lint roller in your styling kit so that you can brush it down before and after use to remove any dust particles. If you need to treat a stain or spot-clean your suede ring box, there are a few different approaches depending on the issue:

Removing a Wet Stain on Suede

1. First, blot the stain with a clean, lint-free cleaning cloth to remove as much moisture as you can. 
2. Place the cloth on the stain and press to draw more moisture out, and turn or fold the cloth with each press to use a clean, dry area. 
3. Allow the ring box to dry completely, and if the stain is still there, follow the steps below for removing a dry stain. 

Removing a Dried Stain on Suede

1. Use a soft, lint-free cleaning cloth and gently dab the stain to remove any debris from the surface. 
2. If that doesn’t work, try using an art gum eraser or pencil eraser. 
3. If the eraser didn’t successfully remove the stain, you may need to use an emery nail file. 
4. Brush the stained area with a suede brush after each attempt to smooth the nap and restore texture.
